Hours must have passed judging by the sun's height in the sky. I checked the time to see it was already past lunch, although I had not yet grown hungry. I had been too immersed in my painting, and only now looked around the room. I looked at Nera’s painting: A pretty, well done piece. A candle lighting flame to the page of a book.

I wondered what it meant surrounding the prompt but did not want to pry. Instead, I did a lap around the room to look at all the others' work. A variety for sure. Some were much better than others. A field of white lilies on a hillside. A pond full of coy fish. A sunny day at the pool. A mother duck leading four waddling babies. A whale jumping from the teal seawater. A silhouette of a couple dancing by the sunset. And then back to mine.

The director came up to me, her short jet-black hair flowing behind her, “By the gods...This is—”

Nera stood to look at my painting as well. A nervous sweat stained my palms.

“Kiki. It’s absolutely beautiful.”

The director smiled brightly, “You have quite the skill my dear. The emotion conveyed is amazing. And the craftsmanship.”

“Thank you.” I smiled and I truly—truly—meant it when I said, “I had fun today.”

“As you should when you create a masterpiece,” the director smiled jokingly.

“Oh, I’d hardly call it that.”

Nera awed, “I would.”

I noted the dry paint that was splattered across my hands and forearms and unrolled my sleeves. I assumed they would go back to what they were doing, but they stayed. And so, we all stared at my painting: A woman with dark shimmering raven wings, spread wide from her back. Her hand reached up for the big and beautiful moon.
